Tikalara Park, at the Junction of the Yarra River and Mullum-Mullum Creek, is the most historic area in Manningham from both Aboriginal and pioneer perspectives. It was a traditional Aboriginal living area, and also where Major Charles Newman, the first colonist in Manningham in 1838, built his homestead "Pontville", which still stands there today.

Reconciliation Manningham acknowledges the Woiwurrung language people of the Kulin Federation as the traditional custodians and curators of the Yarra Valley Estate, the land we now all share.

We pay respects to their Elders past and present, and take pride as Australians, in sharing this heritage of the world’s oldest living culture.
